Your coaches for the day

Meet your coaches: Melinda Murray and Wade Robertson.

Coach Melinda Murray

Coach Melinda Murray

PPR Certified · 5.0 · National Silver Medalist (50+) · DUPR 4.6

Melinda is a PPR Certified Pickleball Professional and a 5.0 national level competitor. She picked up the game in 2020 and climbed fast: National Bronze in the 5.0 50+ division in 2023, National Silver in 2024, and she is now training toward National Gold in 2026. A lifelong racquet athlete who played tennis from age 10 through the collegiate and pro level, she carries a 4.6 DUPR and competes across San Diego, Spring Valley and Chula Vista.

Here is why that matters for your four hours. Melinda will tell you she did not reach a national podium on raw athleticism. She got there by drilling the right mechanics and making smarter decisions on the court, and she has spent years teaching that same thing to players who thought they had plateaued. On camp day you get the shot technique, the court positioning and the quiet confidence that move a player up a level, broken down by someone who is still winning at the top of the game.

Coach Wade Robertson

Coach Wade Robertson

PPR Certified · 4.5 · Court owner, 11 years in the game

Wade has played for eleven years and has owned and run his own pickleball court for the last seven, introducing dozens of players to the game on it. He earned his PPR coaching certification after two careers built on teaching under pressure, first as a flight instructor and then as an airline pilot, and plays at a 4.5 level. With a deep background in tennis, racquetball and beach volleyball, he is the coach who gets brand new players comfortable fast and keeps the whole court having fun.

Between them, Melinda and Wade bring national level competition and years of teaching experience to the same court. Expect sharp instruction, plenty of real play, and a welcoming, social day where it is easy to improve and easy to meet people.

How they coach

1

Watch first, talk second

You have got one or two things holding your game back. Finding yours beats running the same speech for everybody.

2

One fix at a time

Ten corrections overwhelm a new player. You get the one that matters most today, then the next one.

3

Kind to your body

You leave tired in a good way, not wrecked. We want you still playing this game in ten years.

Come in brand new. Here's what usually happens by the last hour:

  • Your serve starts landing in, over and over
  • The soft dinking game finally makes sense
  • You move your feet instead of reaching for balls you shouldn't
  • You leave with a few new friends and a plan for next week

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM · hour by hour

Here is your whole Sunday.

No mystery about what you're paying for. This is the run of play, block by block.

  1. 8:00
    Names first, then paddles

Meet your group of sixteen, an easy warmup, first rallies while Melinda and Wade start reading your game.

  2. 8:20
    The court, in plain English

The kitchen, the two bounce rule, scoring. Ask anything, nobody here thinks it's obvious.

  3. 8:40
    Grip and soft hands

Looser than you think. The touch drill that makes day one feel like week three.

  4. 9:00
    Dinking, the soft game

The little shot everyone talks about, drilled until it stops popping up. Ends with a longest rally contest.

  5. 9:35
    Serve and return

In. Deep. Repeatable. Drilled against a target until it belongs to you.

  6. 10:05
    Break

Water, a seat, and the part where the group chat gets made.

  7. 10:15
    Volleys and the third shot

Hands at the net, and the one shot that gets you up to where points are actually won.

  8. 10:50
    Where to stand in doubles

Move together, take the middle, stop colliding with your partner.

  9. 11:10
    Real games, coaches courtside

Live points with Melinda and Wade calling what to try next, rep by rep.

  10. 11:50
    Your path forward

A recap of what you improved today, and exactly what to work on next week.

It was never about the paddle

You stop saying maybe next time.

The paddle is the excuse. What actually changes is that you walk onto a court full of strangers knowing you belong there.

You spend the day with seven people in exactly your spot, learning the same things at the same speed. Nobody is waiting on you and nobody is showing off. By the afternoon you're laughing between points with people whose names you didn't know that morning.

Most groups swap numbers before they leave. That's how one Sunday turns into a standing thing you look forward to all week.

Questions people ask before Carlsbad.

I've barely played. Am I going to be the weak link in Carlsbad?

Unlikely. That's basically everyone in the room. This camp is built for people who are new or still shaky on real points. Your coach spends the first block reading where each player actually is and adjusts the drills to match. By the closing games, you're playing real points with people at your speed, not scrambling to keep up with strangers.

What's the venue actually like?

Pickleball Republic South, 2045 Corte Del Nogal, Carlsbad, CA 92011, indoor courts. One location, everything you need already there. Map and details are further down this page.

I'm well past 50. Is this pace going to wreck me?

No, and you won't be the oldest one there. Most of our players are over 50. It's built in blocks with real rest between them, not a nonstop grind. Tell us about any injury or limitation when you register and the drills adjust around it.

Do I need a DUPR rating or any kind of proof to register?

None. If DUPR numbers make you feel out of the loop, that's exactly who this is for. We ask two quick self-rating questions at signup and place you from there. No tryout, nothing to prove.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, it usually helps. Register separately, note each other's names, and we'll keep you grouped for the drills so you're not learning the game solo.

With 16 people, do I actually get watched, or is it group instruction?

You get watched. We cap it at 8 players per coach specifically so every rep gets seen. That's the whole design. A week later, you get a written plan based on your game, not a generic recap.

What should I show up with?

Your own paddle if you've got one, court shoes, water, and something you can move in. Balls are provided, and loaner paddles are available, just flag it in the notes when you register.

Something comes up and I can't make it. Then what?

Full refund, any time before camp day, one email to contact@primepickleballers.com. If we're the ones cancelling a date, you choose between a refund or credit toward the next one.

Not ready to book?

We'll email you before the next date opens.

No pressure. Leave your email and we'll let you know the moment a new seat opens, here or in another city.

Camp dates only. No spam, and one click to leave.

Sunday is four hours.
The game is yours for years.
