Your coach for the day

Hi, I'm Carmen Sanz — I'll be your coach on Sat August 29, 2026.

Coach Carmen Sanz
Coach Carmen SanzPPR certified · Lafayette Tennis Club

Carmen Sanz runs Carmen Sanz Pickleball out of the Lafayette Tennis Club — her club is ranked among the top 20 DUPR clubs worldwide. She's a PPR certified coach who built her program around exactly what nervous beginners need: real reps, honest feedback, and zero judgment.

You don't need a rating, a partner, or any experience to show up. Carmen groups the day around where you actually are, not where you think you should be.

How your coach works

1

Watch first, talk second

You have got one or two things holding your game back. Finding yours beats running the same speech for everybody.

2

One fix at a time

Ten corrections overwhelm a new player. You get the one that matters most today, then the next one.

3

Kind to your body

You leave tired in a good way, not wrecked. We want you still playing this game in ten years.

★★★★★

It's refreshing to have a strong leader in the pickleball world who runs programs so well and genuinely cares about the participants. I felt taken care of and like I was an important part of your program.

4.0 Tournament player, CA

Come in brand new. Here's what usually happens by the last hour:

  • Your serve starts landing in, over and over
  • The soft dinking game finally makes sense
  • You move your feet instead of reaching for balls you shouldn't
  • You leave with a few new friends and a plan for next week

9:00 AM – 1:00 PM · hour by hour

Here is your whole Saturday.

No mystery about what you're paying for. This is the run of play, block by block.

Names first, then paddles

Meet your group of eight, easy warm-up, first rallies while your coach starts reading your game.

9:00

The court, in plain English

The kitchen, the two-bounce rule, scoring. Ask anything — nobody here thinks it's obvious.

9:20

Grip and soft hands

Looser than you think. The touch drill that makes day one feel like week three.

9:40

Dinking, the soft game

The little shot everyone talks about, drilled until it stops popping up. Ends with a longest-rally contest.

10:00

Serve and return

In. Deep. Repeatable. Drilled against a target until it belongs to you.

10:35

Break

Water, a seat, and the part where the group chat gets made.

11:05

Volleys and the third shot

Hands at the net, and the one shot that gets you up to where points are actually won.

11:15

Where to stand in doubles

Move together, take the middle, stop colliding with your partner.

11:50

Real games, coach courtside

Live points with your coach calling what to try next, rep by rep.

12:10

Your path forward

A recap of what you improved today, and exactly what to work on next week.

It was never about the paddle

You stop saying maybe next time.

The paddle is the excuse. What actually changes is that you walk onto a court full of strangers knowing you belong there.

You spend the day with seven people in exactly your spot, learning the same things at the same speed. Nobody is waiting on you and nobody is showing off. By the afternoon you're laughing between points with people whose names you didn't know that morning.

Most groups swap numbers before they leave. That's how one Saturday turns into a standing thing you look forward to all week.

A quick gut check

Is this camp for you?

It's for you if…

  • You picked up a paddle recently and love it, but real games still feel shaky
  • You're 40, 50, 60, 70 — most of our players are
  • You want a coach watching your game, not a lecture with a paddle in your hand
  • You'd rather learn with seven other beginners than sink-or-swim at open play

It's not for you if…

  • You're a 4.0 with tournament weekends already booked
  • You want twenty straight games and zero coaching
  • You're looking for a kids' program

Questions worth asking.

What if I've barely played? Will I be the slowest one in Lafayette?

No. This camp is built for beginners, so everyone is either holding a paddle for one of the first times or has played a few months and still feels like they're guessing. Your coach reads the room in the first half hour and groups the drills so people move at a speed that matches them. By the end of the day you'll be playing real points with people you'll want to play with again.

Where exactly is the camp, and what's it like?

Lafayette Tennis Club, 3125 Camino Diablo, Lafayette, CA 94549 — outdoor courts, clubhouse on site. Everything happens in one place: you show up, and what you need is there. Full details and a map are further down this page.

I'm in my 50s, 60s, or beyond. Is this really for me?

Yes, and you'll be in good company. Most of our players are 50 and up. The pace is structured rather than punishing, there's a proper break between drilling blocks, and the drills adapt to any injury or limitation you tell us about when you register.

Do I need a rating to come?

No rating, no tryout, no proof of anything. If you've heard people mention DUPR numbers and felt out of the loop, this is exactly the camp for you. We ask two quick self-rating questions when you register and slot you in.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, and we'd recommend it — most beginners learn faster showing up with someone they know. Register separately, mention each other in the notes, and we'll keep you grouped during the drills.

Will I actually get individual attention?

Yes. 8 players, four hours, one coach who can watch every rep. That's why the cap is 8 and not twenty. A week after camp your coach sends a written plan based on what they saw from your game specifically.

What do I bring?

Your paddle if you have one, court shoes, a water bottle, and athletic clothes. Balls are provided, and loaner paddles are available if you haven't bought one yet — just tell us in the notes when you register.

What if I can't make the camp date?

Cancel any time before camp day for a full refund. One email to contact@primepickleballers.com is all it takes, no questions asked. If we ever have to cancel, you choose between a full refund or full credit.

Not ready to book?

We'll email you before the next date opens.

No pressure. Leave your email and we'll let you know the moment a new seat opens, here or in another city.

Camp dates only. No spam, and one click to leave.

Saturday is four hours.
